The Greenery Inc, an employee-owned landscaping company based in the Lowcountry and Coastal Empire, was recently recognized for its impressive landscape maintenance at the Avala Apartment Complex in the Savannah Quarters community.

The Savannah Apartment Association recently announced the Platinum winners for its 2013 Landscape Beautification Awards. Avala Apartments, maintained by The Greenery, won for Best New Community. According to Paul Gray, The Greenery’s Greater Savannah Account Manager, the crew has been maintaining the complex since April 2009. The Greenery maintains the entire common area with special floral displays for enhanced curb appeal at the front entrance and sales office.

The apartment complexes were judged on their entrance, office area and residential areas by Savannah horticulturist Ed Poenicke. Avala Apartments’ landscape scored highest for its overall appearance, “green” landscaping, color, creativity and use of economical landscaping.

As an employee-owned company, The Greenery and its staff recognize the importance of preserving and enhancing the Lowcountry and Coastal Empire’s unique and pristine coastal environment. The employees take pride in their community and have been committed for the past 40 years to caring for it.

AUGUST SEMINARS

Even the greenest of thumbs could use a little extra help every now and then. Thankfully The Greenery Garden Center and its expert staff of Master Gardeners and Horticulturists are here for you. The Garden center is offering several gardening seminars and workshops this August to ensure your summer and your garden blossoms. 

GARDENING 101
10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7 and Saturday, Aug. 10
Looking to turn your neighbors green with envy? You can start by learning the basic tips needed for proper planting and watering of your garden with Carol Guedalia, who has been with The Greenery for more than 20 years. This free seminar can equip you with the skills needed to keep your plants lush and healthy. 
 
FOR KIDS ONLY
10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14 and Saturday, Aug. 17
Kids love to get their hands dirty. Give them the chance to do something fun, productive and a little messy while they learn how they can pitch in with the gardening chores. Kids can take a tour of The Greenery Garden Center and learn the basics of how to care for a garden. They will even get the chance to pot their very own plant to take home. Milk and cookies will be provided so there won’t be any “hungry caterpillars” around. This workshop is perfect for elementary-school aged children. $5 per child.
 
SUCCULENTS
10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21 and Saturday, Aug. 24
If you’re thumb isn’t as green as you like, but you still want to fill your home with beautiful, fresh arrangements … then succulent plants might the perfect solution. Succulent plants have become extremely popular for their beauty and easy care. This group of diverse plants is typically classified by the thicker leaves and stems, which retain water and make them ideal for a patio or screened porch. Let The Greenery’s knowledgeable staff teach you how to create and care for these striking arrangements in this free seminar. 
 
LADIES’ NIGHT (POSTPONED)
Ladies are invited to enjoy this progressive garden party! Bring a friend and your gardening gloves and have fun as you tour The Greenery’s Garden Center & Antique Shop enjoying wine and appetizers along the way. Later in the evening you will get the opportunity to participate in a hands-on gardening workshop with The Greenery’s team of experts. You’ll leave the workshop with loads of gardening knowledge and a unique garden pot you planted yourself. $30 per person.
