Behind the Beauty: The Greenery’s 50+ Year Legacy at the RBC Heritage

When spectators walk the breathtaking fairways of Harbour Town Golf Links during the RBC Heritage each year, they’re greeted by more than world-class golf—they’re immersed in the charm and natural beauty of the Lowcountry. But few realize the tireless effort and detailed planning that goes into creating this iconic setting. For over 50 years, The Greenery, Inc. has proudly served as an ambassador of the Lowcountry, providing expert landscaping services at Sea Pines Resort and helping shape the backdrop of South Carolina’s most beloved golf tournament.

A Longstanding Partnership with the RBC Heritage
Since the Heritage’s early days, The Greenery, Inc. has played a vital role in its success. Our crews work behind the scenes, maintaining the expansive grounds of Sea Pines Resort and Harbour Town Golf Links—the very landscapes that have become synonymous with the tournament. From flower beds to fairways, every detail is meticulously managed to reflect the beauty of the Lowcountry – welcoming thousands of locals and visitors alike.
Heritage Week: A 24/7 Operation
Most fans see the beauty—but not the 100+ hours of labor The Greenery, Inc. crews put in before the first tee-off. Preparation begins long before April. In fact, crews monitor the weather and plan floral designs for Heritage Week 8 to 9 months in advance to ensure every bloom is timed to perfection.

And with the PGA Tour’s strict watering rules during the tournament, The Greenery team must hand-water each flower on the course. It’s a level of detail and commitment few can imagine.
Once tournament week arrives, the crew’s days begin before sunrise and often stretch until 2 a.m., handling everything from landscaping and cleaning to replanting and watering.
The Geraniums: A Story of Color and Care
No flower is more iconic to the RBC Heritage than the red geraniums that accent the areas around the course. What many don’t know is that these vibrant blooms are grown in South Carolina specifically for the event. Each year, The Greenery, Inc. plants over 3,000 geraniums and more than 5,000 additional plants in a very tight window leading up to the tournament.

In recent years, The Greenery, Inc. also had to adapt to changing TV technology—when HD and 4K screens made deep red blooms appear dull and less vibrant, our team worked tirelessly to find a new geranium variety that would pop on camera while still thriving in the coastal climate.
Crafting a Championship Backdrop
Every morning and evening once the tournament begins, crews inspect and tidy up the landscaping, replace flowers and keep everything picture-perfect for thousands of spectators—and millions more watching from home.

The Greenery, Inc.’s dedication to creating pristine landscaping has helped make the RBC Heritage not only a premier PGA Tour event but a celebration of Southern hospitality and natural beauty.
At The Greenery, Inc. we’re honored to be a part of this longstanding Lowcountry tradition. For over half a century, our partnership with the Heritage has been rooted in pride, precision, and passion for our craft. From hand-watering flowers under the stars to planting thousands of blooms that create a pop of color around the course, we’re proud to play a part in making the RBC Heritage a truly unforgettable experience.
