Earth Month: Creating a Quieter, Greener Future
Monday, April 20, 2026 | The Greenery, Inc.
April is Earth Month. It’s a time to reflect on how we care for the planet and the role each of us plays in creating a healthier future.
Environmental responsibility is more than a once-a-year conversation at The Greenery, Inc. It’s an ongoing commitment woven into the way we work every day as we pursue our mission of enhancing people’s lives through beautiful landscaping.
One of the most impactful ways we’re continuing to make a difference is by expanding our use of electric landscape equipment across our operations. By transitioning away from traditional gas-powered handheld tools whenever possible, we’re helping reduce emissions while also creating quieter environments for the communities we serve.
And that matters more than many people realize.

A Quieter Approach to Landscaping
For many residents in neighborhoods, it’s a familiar experience: a peaceful morning is suddenly interrupted by the roar of landscaping equipment. In a region where beautifully maintained outdoor spaces are part of everyday life, that noise has often been considered unavoidable.
But we feel like it doesn’t have to be.
Over the last decade, The Greenery, Inc. has been steadily working toward more sustainable landscaping solutions. What began as an effort to reduce noise at resort properties has evolved into a larger operational shift toward electric equipment at all of our branches across the Southeast.
“At resort properties, you have a limited window to get work done, and often that means starting early,” said Lee Edwards, CEO of The Greenery. “Being out there with loud equipment at 7 a.m. is the last thing someone wants to hear on vacation.”
Initially, our crews began using electric equipment during early morning hours simply because it was quieter. The response from clients and guests was overwhelmingly positive.
“People really liked it, and that got us thinking — it would be great if we could operate this way all day,” Edwards said.
Technology Catching Up With the Vision
For years, widespread adoption of electric landscaping equipment wasn’t really practical. Earlier models lacked the power, battery life, and durability needed for commercial landscaping operations. And the costs were difficult to justify at scale.
But advancements in battery capacity as well as charging technology have changed dramatically in recent years.
Today’s electric equipment is more reliable, more efficient, and powerful enough to meet the demands of professional crews in the field.

“There was definitely a learning curve,” said Carlos Flores, Associate Branch Manager for Hilton Head Island. “When people hear ‘electric,’ they assume it won’t perform the same. But once our crews used it, they realized it’s actually very comparable. That’s when you start hearing, ‘Okay, I like this.’”
Beyond performance, crews have also experienced benefits from reduced vibration, lower maintenance requirements, and less day-to-day noise exposure.
Sustainability Through Steady Progress
The transition to electric equipment is also helping reduce emissions and support a healthier environment.

Sustainability isn’t about perfection or overnight transformation. To us, It’s about steady progress while continuously looking for better ways to serve both our clients and the environment.
Earth Month serves as a reminder that protecting the planet starts in the everyday choices we make. Even small changes can make a meaningful impact over time.
And we’re proud to keep moving in the right direction driving meaningful progress toward a more sustainable future for the communities we serve.
